client diversity ftw hard to imagine working on a system without it not only does it bring an incredibly diverse set of characters to build, vet, and secure the specifications and implementations but it literally saves the chain on days like today

I developed a newfound appreciation for blockchain liveness (especially LMD-GHOST fork choice) since yesterday's incident. Ethereum didn't finalize for 3 epochs, but it kept going. Users were barely affected or noticed the finality gap.

The beacon chain did not "halt", to suggest that it did is willfully spreading misinformation. Finalization was delayed for 3 epochs (about 19 minutes), and was recovered after turbulence. End users would have no idea this happened and transactions continued normally.

What's up with verkle trees? We've been working on the conversion from the current merkle tree to a verkle tree. This is a challenging problem, because the amount of data is huge: it doesn't find in RAM, and needs at least a day for the translation to complete on a beefy machine.

The KZG ceremony is opening up for public contributions again, but things are a little different this time. Due the lobby getting crazily large we are trying something new: we're starting with really high nonce requirements and we're gonna keep reducing them.

Ethereum proof-of-stake chain has upgraded to Shapella. Withdrawal is now enabled 🎉 This closes the loop of the original beacon chain design. Validator can deposit -> withdrawal.

Shapella is in two days - last chance to upgrade your node if you haven't already 📆👀!
